WEEK 18: My First Rocket

Image
HOWDY!! How is life?? I would love to hear about it.  We've been living laughing and loving over here in East Vegas! It's been an incredible week. A lot has happened, so bear with me, this might be lengthy... BUT. Missionary work is SO MUCH FUN! It is such a blessing to have this opportunity to do this work. I spent a lot of time thinking about the chances of me getting assigned to this mission, out of all the missions in the world, and the fact that I am here in this area, with these missionaries and this companion.... there's no way this isn't Divinely orchestrated!! I am exactly where I need to be. And I am so lucky to have this area and to learn from and be friends with the missionaries, members, and friends around me. There are so many good people here! I've just become overwhelmed with love for this area, and gratitude that I have the privilege of working here. God is so good!!! I have a lot of pictures to share this week. Starting with Monday, we had a brunch...

WEEK 17: The One Where I Send A Short Email

Image
Hello!  Wow. It feels like I JUST send last week's email! This week went by so quickly. I honestly don't even remember most of it! I just know that it's been a lot of fun. I'm just going to outline the week in bullet points today! - We played cards for 3 hours as a district last P-day, and it was so fun! - The Elders surprised us with FIVE boxes of outshine fruit bar popsicles!! After we had already restocked for the week... Our freezer is just entirely popsicles at this point. But I'm not complaining. Tried to return their kindness by offering stickers we picked up at the dollar store. - The weather dropped from 90⁰ to 60⁰ this weekend. We had a huge dust storm Saturday, it was so hazy and gross that we couldn't even see the lights from the Strip. The wind gusts got up to 27mph! And the wind was COLD. I finally got to wear a cardigan! It officially feels like fall here. - Roy is on date for baptism!! We invited him to pray about baptism this week, and he said h...

WEEK 16: Rotisserie Chicken

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears! It's preparation say again. And I have so much to talk about!! First of all, Sister Salazar is the coolest person EVER!! I am so lucky to be with her in our area! She's killing it, and we're working really well together. She is so much fun, and I adore her. It feels like we've been companions forever already, and it hasn't even been a week yet! We just jumped right into stride with each other, and it's been absolutely fire so far. She came out the transfer before I did, so we go home at the same time next December! So basically we're both fairly new to the mission, but this is a really great way for us to grow quickly and work together. #companionshipunity We're trying to set up member lessons like crazy because neither of us know anyone. We also have a district competition to see how many invitations we can extend and follow up on. It only counts if you follow up! The goal is 35 invitations/follow ups each...

WEEK 15: Baptisms And Transfers And Pickleball--Oh My!

Image
Good morning, good morning, good morning! (Yes, I know it's afternoon, I didn't want to write another intro). It's been a great week here in East Las Vegas. How has your week been?? I would love to hear about it. Send me an email! Or a good, old-fashioned letter. Snail mail is superior and I have already loved having pen pals on my mission.  First of all, transfers are tomorrow!! Can you believe it?? This transfer FLEW by! I will be staying here, and my new companion will be Sister Salazar. Sister VanLangeveld is going to North Las Vegas! We're very excited. The Bonanza (Spanish) missionaries are being put back into our Zone, so we won't be the only sisters in the Zone anymore! That's always a plus, hehe. So today will be a flurry of packing and cleaning and getting Sister Van and Hermana Housley ready to move out tomorrow. All good things! Last Pday we created an "epic pickleball tournament bracket" and played pickleball as a district for almost 3 hou...

WEEK 14: General Conference!!

Happy Monday!     Buckle up, it's been a week filled with chaos.     Our apartment flooded this week, what an adventure that was! Thursday afternoon Hermana Housley was laying on the carpet, and when she sat up there was water under her. We quickly realized that it was coming from the wall, and was spreading across the living room and underneath Hermana Wright's bed on the other side of the wall! We don't have a key to the water heater tank closet that connects to our patio, but our neighbor David was able to get it open using his pocket knife and a screwdriver. When we opened the door, we saw about 2 inches of standing water that had leaked from the water tank, and it had seeped under the wall into our living room. The rest of our day kind of got hijacked after that, with random extra appointments coming up and our schedule being rearranged to have maintenance look at the tank. We were hoping to have the water tank replaced that night, but had to wait until the next...
