WEEK 60: Hurricane Hilary In Henderson

Well, hello!

This weekend Las Vegas was smacked with the after-effects of Hurricane Hilary, which moved up the coast of Mexico and then California. I never thought I would hear the words "hurricane hits Las Vegas", but here we are! Friday through Sunday we just had masses of dark clouds, wind, and pouring rain. All day. Every day. The humidity levels were off the charts, and it was an interesting experience for this desert wasteland that I love. Thankfully none of the missionaries have been affected too badly, and we now have clear skies and sunshine! But there are many who are suffering from this aftermath of storm, as well as those on Maui who are dealing with the devastation after the wildfires. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

This week was a little hard, but we saw miracles. I've spent time thinking about how Christ always turned outward, even when He was struggling and suffering. That is an attribute I am trying to develop, as it's so easy to shut down and turn into myself and my problems when I'm having a hard day, but this week the Spirit was quick to remind me that, to follow the Savior's example, I need to run to others when they're hurting. I'm always in awe at the example of my Savior, who served, healed, taught, and loved each individual. I have a long way to go, but I am grateful for His perfect example.

I love the plea in Moroni 10:32:

"Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God."

Come unto Christ! We're so imperfect, but through a lifetime of gaining experiences and repentance, we can become whole, completed, and yes, perfect through Him.
