WEEK 38: Kodak Moments
Hello friends and family!!
I have been hyped to send this email all week, because our week was just packed full of goodness. We were going all week! I actually took time to write my email throughout the week instead of waiting until the last minute on Monday, so this might be a little longer than usual. Let's just get right into it!
We had such a good lesson with the Gilberts on Monday! FINALLY! We talked about the Restoration, and Brother and Sister Gilbert said that it was pure inspiration that that's what we talked about, as they'd been talking about it and had wanted more clarification on some things. It was awesome! Sister Gilbert promised to start reading in the Book of Mormon immediately, and Gavin committed to praying tonight! They're all planning to come to church on Sunday, and I'm absolutely stoked. I love this family, and they're just so earnest and faithful! Please pray for the boys, that they'll be able to progress quickly and absorb everything we teach them.
We had many miracles Monday night. I accidentally went pirate mode that night (lost one of my earrings, I was walking around town with a singular gold hoop...pirate mode!), but that gave us the opportunity to retrace our steps and run into a woman that used to be taught, but we've had no contact recently! We made sure we had her phone number, invited her to church, and promised to come visit later this week. Right after that we ran into Sara again, and set up to meet with her later this week, too! She's really struggling, and could use a lot of prayers.
Tuesday was a crazy day. We were completely booked with appointments and tasks to do, even before we planned our day that morning! We were running around like crazy with back to back appointments! All three that we had that afternoon were with potential friends! One of the lessons was with Sandy, a woman that Sister Gariety and I had talked to by a miracle on exchanges. She's looking for a Christian church to attend! What better place to go than The Church of Jesus Christ?? We went back and had a great lesson with her. The Spirit filled the room when we spoke of Joseph Smith's experience with the First Vision, and she humbly accepted a copy of the Book of Mormon and was excited to read it and attend church on Sunday! Our lesson with Lorna didn't go through, and good old Dean was more excited to show us all the fruit trees he has in his backyard than discuss the gospel... but it was a great day anyway!
Wednesday was even more of a crazy day, but for many different reasons. First of all, it rained. Absolutely poured. And we had conveniently decided to go bike mode...so we got a little bit soaked, but it made it an adventure and it was all quite fun. We had an interesting afternoon, with an experience that showed me how much God truly does guide and protect those who seek His help. It's a bit too much to write about here, but suffice it to say, we were led out of harm's way and kept safe. We had asked to see a miracle, and I testify that we did! The chain of decisions that we made in our attempts to follow the guidance of the Spirit moved us away from a dangerous situation and allowed us to continue in our work. I'm so grateful for Sister Eastman's willingness to go with the flow, and our efforts to improve our abilities to heed promptings. We truly were protected and inspired to change our path, and I know it's because we were obedient and trying to be diligent! Obedience really does bring all the blessings.
Friday we had an exchange with the YSA sisters again!! I went with Sister Scott into the YSA area, and it was a blast. We had so much fun together! Let me just say that I absolutely adore the missionaries that I get to serve around. Everyone here is an absolute gem, and it's an honor to know them and work with them!! I highly recommend. Love 'em all.
We had a lesson with William and Sister O'Brien this week. They're experiencing a lot of strong opposition, but William is still committed to baptism on April 8th! We had more to teach him, but for now he seems to be on track. He's reading from the Book of Mormon every day, and his testimony of Joseph Smith has really increased. He's now working on gaining a testimony of the current prophet, President Nelson! I can add my testimony to the many others of the divine call of modern-day prophets! I'm grateful to know that the heavens are open again and that we have guidance from God through a prophet. I'm looking forward to hearing from the prophet and leaders of the Church in a couple weeks in General Conference!!
Moments that made me laugh this week:
- Sister Eastman tried to throw a half-eaten donut into a dumpster, but she doesn't know her own strength and it sailed way beyond the dumpster and it was just hilarious.
- A member we visited has a pet pig! Just a straight up pig. As a pet. It was crazy.
- I had a spiritual epiphany while Sister Eastman and I were discussing how to help our dear friend Dewayne understand the need for modern-day prophets. A "kodak moment", if you will.
Anyway. I think that's all I got, for now. It was a very eventful week.
Love ya, bye!
